The island of Krk is famous for its rich and interesting undersea, mostly because of its indented coast that is prettified with many caves and rocks, filled with flora and fauna. Have you already heard of Biserujka, one of the most famous caves of Croatia?
Meet the underground of the island of Krk through the caves that you can swim or dive trough. You can either be a professional diver or just a curious tourist, there is always a lot to explore.
1. Špilja Biserujka - Omišalj
When we talk about the caves of Krk, the cave Biserujka is definitely the most famous one. It is a coastal cave, located on the northern part of the island. It is open for all visitors and it is surrounded by a fenced walking trail.
The cave is filled with flowstones and stalactites that are beautifully lighted for the visitors. It consists out of 7 halls and rooms that you can see from the walking trail. All together 6 endemic kinds were revealed in the cave, and also the remains of extinct cave bear (24.000 years)!
2. Underwater cave in Vrbnik
This beautiful undersea cave is located near the city of Vrnik. It is accessible only to the trained divers because the entrance to the cave is 15 meters deep. The cave itself is 30 meters long and is partly lighted with a surface hole.
3. Love cave (blue cave) - Plavnik
Even though this cave is not located on Krk, but on the small island of Plavnik, it is a very famous destination for the tourists. A small entrance to this coastal cave is located on the sea side. You can enter this cave swimming, diving or even walking, which makes the cave proper for the visitors that are not professionals or trained divers. At the end of the cave there is a small beach with an opening. The daylight comes through the opening and gives the sea a beautiful blue colour.
