Krk boast over 300 kilometers of registered walking trails that differ wildly. From the so called "Lungomare" trails that follow the coast of the island, meant for easy, relaxing walks; to the more demanding trails more suitable for mouintaineers that lead inland. Here is our choice of the 5 best walking trails on Krk:
1. The golden treasure trail of Krk (City of Krk)
The name of the trail is of course a reference to olive oil and the trail aims to introduce people to the production of olive oil on Krk. The trails starts in the City of Krk, through olive groves towards the "Etno house" in Kornić and back to the City. The total length of the trail is 10km and the ETA is hours.
2. Educational trail Baška
The Baška educational trail aims to show the richness of local flora and fauna representing the south of Krk. It streaches from Baška toward Lipica pass, in total 6km. Because it's short and takes around 2 and a half hours, it's considered an easy trail.
3. The Frankopan trail (Vrbnik)
This is a circular trail covering in total around 20km and 5 hours total. The trail features 11 stops where you can get familiarized with the mediveal history of Krk. One of the more interesting sights is the Gradec fort, a ruined castle of the Frankopan family.
4. The Olive trek trail (Malinska)
This circular trail leads from the centre of Malinsa towards Barušići and inland, to wind back down to Porat and Malinska. The final part of the trail is a beautiful, relaxing walk along the coast. The total length of the trail is 21km.
5. Dobrinjština trail (Dobrinj)
This is a circular trail 18km long in total, managed by the tourist board of Dobrinj. It's a mountainous trail that connects Šilo and Dobrinj. The expected time to cover the trail is around 6 hours.
