City of Krk

The baths are dated to the 1st century, and a significant change, according to Mohorovičić, occurred at the end of the 4th century, when a small oratory with a baptistery was built within the walls of the thermal baths. This was the beginning of a transformation that would lead to the complete transformation of the ancient baths into an early Christian basilica during the 5th century. Today, only two capitals remain from the original basilica. We can only assume that, given its dimensions, it was a magnificent church. |
