The autumn is just around the corner and with it comes so much to look forward to - the gastronomy as well. The vintage has just come to an ending, the olive harvest is about to start and the colder sea temperature attract some other kinds closer to the sea shore...
The Krk Food Fest, which is held from 20th of September to 20th October, brings all of the best fall flavours 'on a plate'.
1. The autumn sea flavours
In this time period, starts the squids and octopus 'hunting' season. The most popular dishes within the locals is a octopus salad and an Adriatic-squids risotto.
2. Fall fruits and veggies
The island Krk is wealth on fruits and vegetables, both the grown and naturally occurring ones. If you've visited the island before, then you know that you can find and try the local figs, right from the trees, basically on every step.
In this period you can still get the figs and other fruits which's season is coming to an end (grapes) and also the ones that are just about to start (apples, pears), and also different veggies - local tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, pumpkin and many other. On the island of Krk you can try olives prepared in some other ways other than pickled - such as stuffed or fried!
3. The connection between traditional and modern
Even though those ingredients are traditional and have had a long history for over a millennium, for as long as the island has been inhabitated, today this food can be tried in both traditional ways, in small traditional restaurants, or in a more modern ways in some of the new restaurants.
What sounds better to you - a scampi tartar with squash emulsion or traditional fish stew with polenta? No matter what you'd prefer, exploring the island's gastronomy is a perfect way to spend your vacation on Krk!
