The whole Kvarner region, including the island Krk, will be included in an event called Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of culture. Through the program "27 neighbourhoods", the city of Krk, Malinska and Vrbnik will be involved in different events during the entire year.
The city of Vrbnik has already been chosen as one of the premiere occasions with an event 'the egzotic open-air cinemas'. We are bringing you our review on some of the main cultural occasions on the island of Krk, as a part of the Rijeka 2020 programme.
1. City of Krk - dance festival ČAgaj 2020
During the pre season, in time period 28.-31.05.2020., in the city of Krk and other nearby places will be held a completely new dance festival, Čagaj 2020. As the organizers say, it will be a 'festival of dance and music - an unusual match of traditional and modern music with new dance expressions".
This festival is suitable for all age groups and different dancing levels. The Latvian city Riga also cooperates with the city of Krk in organising this festival.
2. Malinska - "Salted culture"
This festival held in Malinska wants to have all of your sensors awaken. From 21.05.-25.05.2020., on different locations of the city of Malinska, many different events will be held:
International food industry congress 'Food revolution day' for the food event, 'Jazz on jaz' as a music festival, the programme called 'Salted lungs' where the visitors will be able to plant flowers and an sea & salt exhibition called "creative growth".
For this festival, Malinska has 'friended up' with the city of Bilbao, Spain.
3. Vrbnik - folklore and music
While we're waiting for the official announcement, it is said that the city of Vrbnik will go for a traditional way - folklore with living dance expressions, gastronomy and language, as a focus of croatian literacy and Glagolitic.
4. Baška - Lungomare Art
Stone 'mrgari' on top of Baška which is already known to tourists for hiking trails. In the interpretation of Chilean artists they will further elevate installation that highlights them. It is a permanent art installation that visitors will be able to see in the future, outside of the festival.
