As Krk is the Croatia's biggest island, it itself has its own belonging small islands. Some of them are even popular tourist destinations for a one day trip!

Down under we're bringing you our review of the islands, that would definitely be worth visiting next time you're around the Krk area!

1. Islet Košljun

Probably the most famous and interesting islet in the sea surface of Krk, located near cities of Krk and Punat. There is a inhabitated Franciscan monastery that has an interesting librery where you can find incunabulas - first printed books.

There is a taxi boat in Krk and Punat that you can use to get to the islet.

2. The island Plavnik and islet Mali Plavnik

The island of Plavnik is rich with fauna - there you can find pheasants, rabbits and even griffon vulture. Beside the island there is a 20 meters long cave. The sun shines trough the inside of the cave, which makes it special for people to swim.

3. Kormati

Two smaller islands, inhabitated with a colony of gulls. The gulls have also 'taken over' the small Island Galun, near Stara Baška.

4. The island Prvić

Located southward from the city of Baška, this island is the protected botanical reserve, with a variety of endemic plants. It is also home to the second largest colony of griffon vulture, right after the island Cres. It is not easy to access the island, but you can visit it with a tourist boat from Baška.

5. St.. Grgur and Goli Otok

Two 'neighbour' islands - St. Grgur and Goli otok are most likely to be more well known to the locals then to the foreigns. In the history there were located some of the most infamous prisons, and today the visitors can get to see the ruins of those prisons. The locals of the island are very friendly animals, that act nicely to the visitors.
