What do you say we change things a bit, and this time, instead of traveling through the island, we travel around Krk?
Krk has many beaches, coves and small islets that can be best accessed from the sea, and it is most certainly best to do without the noise of an outboard engine, but with a noise of slight flapping of the sails in the wind. The locations are numerous: from the inaccessible bays of the North Coast (Košćere), to the beaches and places of the more accessible west coast, up to Punat bay and its famous islet Košljun.
You can also visit smaller islands such as Prvić, or Goli otok, which is home to an innocent former political camp. And if you can explore the entire coast of Krk, you do not have to worry about getting bored of you. While your boat is moored, why not try to go fishing or diving? Hidden coves are ideal for that. You have access to whole Kvarner and the largest town in Kvarner - Rijeka, as well as neighboring islands of Cres, Rab and even Lošinj. If you are particularly adventurous, you can cross the entire eastern coast of the Adriatic and all its islands. When sailing in the matter, the horizon is the limit.
Plenty of wind on the island
Situated beneath the mountains of Gorski Kotar and the open Adriatic Sea, the wind is abundant. Although the summer's most popular sailing season it does not mean that it is the only option for sailor-favored visitors. Indeed, athletes might have preferred a cooler seasons - with a little help from the wind jackets and / or protective department, sailing is comfortable at any time of the year.
However, if you prefer summer, we certainly recommend you to visit the "Krčka jedra" (Krk sails) - a sailing week in the town of Krk, which is held every August, where you can participate in workshops or visit interesting exhibitions.
Where to get a sailboat?
If you do not have your own sailing boat and want to try this unique experience, do not worry - renting a sailboat is very convenient. In Punat, one of the most popular sailing destinations not only on the island, but also in Croatia, you can sail for affordable price on sailing boats, a traditional wooden sailor with a Latin sail or even the only trimaran in Croatia. On the other hand, all sailing owners will be surprised with the news that Krk has many ports and marinas where you can moor your boat, with the largest one in Punat.
So this year, in addition to renting an apartment or house, why not rent a boat for a day or two ... or as much as your heart desires. Whatever you decide, one thing is certain: you will not regret it on Krk!
