Spring on the island Krk

Easter holidays are the right opportunity for a family to be together and to use well a few common days. If you choose to stay in the most northerly of the islands, you have the opportunity to feel the first rays of spring at sea. The Mediterranean climate and excellent traffic connections make island of Krk one of the most ideal places on the Croatian coast for a shorter (or longer) breaks.

Easter holidays on island Krk can be carried out through an active holiday, driving many bike trails or hiking to the lunar plateau near Baska. But if your ideal vacation yet contains less physical effort and more research of culture and traditions we suggest you to spend a pleasant time visiting many churches and other religious buildings on the largest island in the Adriatic.

Kosljun - cultural monument island

Not far from the town of Krk, in the next bay, is Košljun island where back in ancient times a mansion was built. In this nature reserve with about 400 plant species is a Franciscan monastery and Church of the Annunciation of Mary from the 15th century. After the death of the last of the Benedictine abbot, Franciscans from Krk have moved the island and the Benedictine church was enlarged, rebuilt and consecrated. The monastery has operated as the first high school which introduced the Croatian language in Istria and Kvarner. Nowadays, on the island there is a permanent exhibition of religious art and ethnographic museum in which are preserved many valuable artifacts that the monks acquired for centuries. The monastery also has a rich library with about 30,000 books.

In the south of the island, near Baska, is place Jurandvor with the early Romanesque church of St. Lucia. The church keeps the most important monument of the Croatian language and literature - Baska tablet. It is written in Croatian letter - Glagolitic (around 1100.). On the hill and on the remains of the former town there is the church of the Mother of God, which is from the 16th century Our Lady's shrine of Krk island and is reachable by a 237 votive pillars from bottom to the top of the hill.

Nowadays, the island Krk known as a tourist destination whose arranged and equipped beaches, beautiful and clear water and moderate temperatures attract many tourists throughout the year. Having these advantages of the island in mind, it is quite understandable that many tourists choose it as their vacation spot.
