This year the carnival begins somewhat later, from January 13, and will be extended until the beginning of March. Although the nearby Rijeka is the regional center of the carnival celebration, the Carnival of Krk itself is proud of the tradition of over 200 years.
Krk Carnival
A rich program was prepared this year in the town of Krk with the opening ceremony on January 13th and closing with a big party with the traditional burning of the carnival on the March 5th. These dates are conveyed with the celebration in Rijeka so carnival lovers do not have to choose between a celebration they want to visit!
During this period, every two weeks will be held Saturday adult entertainment masquerades as well as Sunday carnival fun for children with music and gastronomic offer. More information on event schedules can be found on the Tourist Board website.
Can I visit the Rijeka Carnival if I'm on Krk?
The Rijeka Carnival is certainly the largest and most famous carnival event in Croatia and beyond, so it would be a pity to miss it during your stay in the holiday home on Krk. Rijeka is just over a 20 minute drive away from Krk!
The two biggest events within the Rijeka Carnival in 2019 are certainly the International Carnival Parade scheduled for March 3rd and the Children's Carnival Parade scheduled for February 16th. As mentioned, the events of the Krk Carnival have been aligned with the program in Rijeka so that there will be no overlapping.
