The island of Krk is one of the few islands that can be approached from the coast by a bike. Because of that, but also for its richness on biking trails on the island, it is one of the most popular destinations for cyclists in Croatia.
There are hundreds of kilometres of designated cycling paths on Krk, from the simpler and more accessible road trails, medium-demanding trekking trails to the mountain bike trails with difficult climbs. Here we bring an overview of the 5 of the best trails for cyclists on the island of Krk of our choice.
1. Punat - Krk - Malinska
The total length of 13 km, this road track is not demanding and is suitable for beginners and even families with children. The trail at its beginning offers a great view on the Punat bay and islet Košljun. If you want a bigger challenge on this path, you can visit the city of Krk itself.
2. Malinska - Porat - Fumak - Sv. Anton - Oštrobradić - Malinska
This circular path is exploring the hinterland of Malinska. With a total length of 22,4 km, this trail is suitable for trekking and mointainers enthusiasts who do not seek a particularly big challenge. On the trail you can visit the monastery of St. Mary Magdalene from the 15th century, and the path also offers a beautiful view on the gulf of Rijeka.
3. Baška - Plato Mjeseca - Portafortuna - Baška
The most demanding track of this list - it is a circular mountain bike trail 26,6 km long with a challenging climb. It starts in the centre of Baška and goes to Plato Mjeseca which provides an amazing view of Velebit and the islands of Prvic and St. Grugur. Only for the most experienced cyclists.
4. Milohnići - Glavotok - Tri hrasta - Poljica - Pinezići - Milohnići
Mountainbike circular trail 20 km long with more climbs, downhills and different terrain configurations. The dynamic track that explores the west of the island offers a view of Cres, the gulf of Rijeka, and it is also possible to explore the church of St. Christian from the 12th century.
5. Vrbnik - Risika - Dobrinj - Kras - Kornic - Vrbnik
The longest run of our list, with a length of 33 km it is a medium-hard road track. Its largest part covers the central part of the island of Krk, and its final descent passes through the rich vineyards by which the city of Vrbnik is widely known.
